Stop the Madness!

By Sandi | March 9, 2009

I am so sick of ear infections and teething that I cannot even begin to describe it! Ugh!

Morgan’s left ear is driving her nuts. And has been for what seems like a month now, but really is probably only a few weeks. She’s allergic to amoxicillian, so they gave her some other antibiotic, but I’m not convinced its working. This left ear business seems to be significantly worse, not better.

Sick babies (teething included, as far as I’m concerned) suck. I hate feeling helpless and completely unable to adequately comfort them. I hate that they’re in pain at all.

So, in a few weeks, we will be gathering this not-so-little family into a van and traveling to Arizona to see David’s brother and new sister, who were married on Valentine’s Day. We’re all giddy-excited. There’s only one hiccup I can foresee in the festivities. That hiccup’s name is Hannah.

See, Hannah has, for the past month or so, begun screaming when she’s in the car. I don’t think it’s just her car seat, because we’ve tried the other one (forward facing), and once the novelty wore off, she was back to crying about it. (Although not nearly as bad.)

She does not let up, either. And there is no fixing it. I’ve tried sitting in the backseat with her, which she likes, but does not fix it. Her passie does not fix it. Her bottle? Nope. Her brother’s antics to make her happy don’t even fix it. So, lately, I’ve just been letting her cry it out, hoping that whatever it is, she’ll work through it before the trip.

Yesterday, she screamed in the car for almost 2 hours straight until I couldn’t stand it anymore and got her out and we walked around for a while.

8-12 hour stints of this is going to be miserable. I’m open to ideas, Dear Internet. PLEASE.

P.S. – the Stars suck rocks lately.

A: I really hope you aren’t actually having the babies forward facing right now. They are too little for that.
B: Ear infections – Have you looked into eliminating dairy from their diets? And have you looked into tubes? Godzilla had numerous ear infections and continued even though we eliminated dairy (which is a culprit). He got tubes and hasn’t had issues since.
C: My boys are allergic to cillin drugs too. Grr. If the one she is on doesn’t work within a day or two, then it’s not working either.
D: Crying in the car. Umm, how does she do with movies? Can you set up the car-dvd system so she can see it? Might work to keep her occupied. I know listening to Blue’s Clues and Little Einsteins while driving might be maddening, but it’s better than listening to the crying. Maybe. :)

I hope things calm down for you all.

    hugs and love

    peace…

People, people…relax. We’re not letting them wave around in car seats just willy-nilly. They are on the weight border for switching from carrier to car seat. They actually sit up in their highchairs pretty well. Morgan has sat up by herself a couple times and Hannah is trying. Did I mention their car seat recline, too? I know it may be hard to believe but we have 20+ years of child rearing experience between. Twins are new, but not taking care of children. :-)

I had my son facing forward at 9 months. He was 20 lbs by then and it made car rides awesome again!

of course you know what you’re doing…just sharing the love and concern..cuz i do and i am…i had a fit when my friend turned my God daughter around WITHOUT CHECKING WITH HER DR.!!! she went on to letting her sit in the front seat WAY too early…i have since learned to try and keep my mouth shut…sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t!
